Privacy policy

What this website collects, why we keep it, and who can see it. Written plainly, because you shouldn't need a lawyer to read it.

This policy covers bhretire.com: the pages, the forms, and the tools the site uses.

What this policy doesn’t cover

If you’re a client, the information about you and your accounts is handled under the privacy notice from Silver Oak Securities, which governs your accounts. This policy is only about the website.

What you give us

We only collect personal information you choose to send us.

  • The contact form:your name, your email address and phone number (you give at least one), how you’d like us to reach you, anything you write in the message box, and whether you asked for our newsletter.
  • My Views by email: your email address.

What the site collects on its own

  • Google Analytics.We use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how people find us. It records things like the pages you visit, the site that sent you, your browser and device, and an approximate location based on your internet address. It uses cookies to do this. It doesn’t tell us who you are.
  • Server records. Our hosting provider keeps short technical records of visits, including internet addresses, so the site stays secure and working. We also use internet addresses briefly to stop the same device sending a form over and over.
  • Videos.The video on our Resources page doesn’t load from YouTube until you press play, and then it plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. The preview picture is loaded from YouTube’s image server.

We don’t use advertising or retargeting pixels on this site.

How we use it

  • To answer you when you reach out.
  • To send My Views to people who asked for it, on the Resources page or with the box on the contact form.
  • To understand which pages are helpful, so we can improve the site.

We won’t sign you up for anything you didn’t ask for. Sending us a message only adds you to our newsletter if you tick the box asking for it.

Who can see it

The people at our office. A few companies run parts of the website for us and handle information only to do that job:

  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Neon stores form submissions in a database.
  • Resend delivers the email that tells our office a form came in.
  • Google provides Google Analytics.
  • FMG, the service we use to send My Views, receives your email address when we add you to the list.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it for anyone else’s marketing.

We may also share information when the law requires it, or with Silver Oak Securities as part of its regulatory oversight of our communications.

How long we keep it

  • Contact form messages: as long as our regulatory recordkeeping obligations require.
  • My Views email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
  • Analytics data: as set in our Google Analytics account.

How we protect it

Forms are sent over an encrypted connection. Submissions are stored in a database that can’t be reached from the public website and can only be opened by our staff accounts. No system is perfect, so please don’t send account numbers, Social Security numbers, or passwords through a website form. Call us instead.

Your choices

  • Stop My Views emails with the unsubscribe link in any issue, or call us.
  • Ask what we hold about you,or ask us to correct or delete it. We’ll do it unless a recordkeeping rule requires us to keep it, and if so we’ll tell you.
  • Turn off analytics by blocking cookies in your browser, or with Google’s opt-out add-on (opens in a new tab).

Children

This site is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Other websites

Our site links to others: Client Access (opens in a new tab), BrokerCheck (opens in a new tab), FINRA (opens in a new tab), SIPC (opens in a new tab), and YouTube. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one doesn’t cover them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
